A last minute beach trip

On Saturday we decided to go to the beach in the afternoon. It was hot here in town like 85-90 degrees so we thought we would escape some of that, plus Jacob would just not go to sleep for a nap and we knew a nice long car ride would do the trick. So off we went without much prior planning, just took off. Most of the time it works out to do this but this time, well ... not so well. We got there just as the sun wass going away and the fog was rolling in. Our first clue as to how chilly the beach was should have been the mass exodus of people leaving. But we thought, oh we're tough, we can handle it. Well, silly me, forgot to bring the warm blankies to wrap the baby in. Now to my defense, it was nearly 90 when we left home and I was doing laundry so they were all getting washed. Still I had a "duh" moment. Anyway we had brought plenty of clothes for him so we put on like 3 layers of clothes on him and wrapped him in Josiahs' sweatshirt. Luckily I had brought 2 sweatshirts and a jacket for Josiah so he was just fine wearing 1 sweathshirt and his jacket. Anyway in this picture my face shows my joy ( or lack of it) after figuring out how really cold it really was on the beach.
But we made the best of it and found some shells and Josiah chased the birds. Jacob was a very "happy camper" even though it was chilly. However he probably wasn't cold at all becuase of his many layers. He made several cute noises as we walked along and he loved watching his brother play as usual.
As we were getting ready to leave, Jonny and Josiah took a short walk along the sand dunes while I fed Jacob and they discovered a pluthera of little, black fuzzy caterpillers all over the bushes. They came and showed me their discovery and asked to take them home and I had to be the bad guy and say no becuase we are moving in 2 weeks. We just don't have the time to wait out their cycle through the crysalis stage and into whatever moth or butterfly they would be. They were disappointed but they enjoyed playing with them while they could. I know it sounds like I'm speaking of 2 children, but it's actually my oldest son and my husband. :-)

After that we went and had a lovely dinner at our favorite seafood restaurant and then took a short drive to a state park just to explore one more thing before we had to make our drive home. We saw lots of wildlife there, 2 coyote's and several jackrabbits and these fun little sea otters just floating on the bay. As I mentioned earlier, it was quite foggy but you can at least see how many there were (probably 3 dozen or so). Overall, what might have been a yucky day, we turned into a nice time together. I will write more later this week about hubby's work. Until then, have a wonderful week! Blessings to all.
