Yep, I really should take to calling my son's #1 and #2. I am constantly calling baby Jacob by his brother's name but today I actually caught myself call Josiah, Jacob. Ugh, please forgive this tired ol mom when I refer to them as #1 and #2 on occasion. :-)
Josiah has been learning so much lately. I'm not sure what has prompted this sudden interest in learning unique things but I am up for the challenge... I think. :-)
Last night at the dinner table we were having another one of those fun conversations that I can't remember any of the content of course becuase of the aforementioned problem (I'm tired in case you forgot too). anyway, during our lovely conversation in which everyone one is kind of giggling already... Josiah blurts out this super loud, crazy scientist sounding laugh. Maybe you had to be there but it was absolutely the funniest thing I have heard in days! Or so I thought.... We go on to be silly and Dawn says something to Josiah, and he gives her the look like (are you crazy?) and says "I don't know what you're talking about." Plain as day, he said it. Oh my goodness that was now the funniest thing I have ever heard. He had not said that ever before or had he ever said a sentence that long so we were all shocked and surprised he would choose that to say at just the right moment. Oh my goodness that was the most fun we had at dinner in a long time. Oh what fun kids are. :-)
Today at breakfast Josiah was eating his toast and he asked "what shape is this?" Ok, we have went over our shapes a few times and on occasion we will talk about what shape different things are but he had never asked me that question before. So I told him it was a rectangle. And from then on with every bite I was asked "now, what shape is it momma?" I had to come up with some interesting answers at times. When he finished with his toast he then asked me what shape his plate was. And I turned around and asked what shape do you think it is? He tells me that it is an "O". He has never refered to a shape as a letter before, so here I am thinking my son is a genius but only to read later that it's normal developmental phase. It's just a new phase for us and well, it's ok if I think my son is a genius. He's awesome and he's all mine!
Another new phase he has started in the last week or so, and I'm afraid will last a long time to come, is that he has started asking "why?" to every question that we answer now. For example, yesterday he asked to play with a certain toy that I don't particularly like all that well, and I said No. He asked why, I said becuase you don't play nice with it. He asks why, I say I said No and you can't play with it right now. He said why, I say don't ask again, the answer is No you may not play with it. So I get Dawn to tell him No too. He still asks for it... and voila in comes Daddy from work. I tell Daddy just to say No. He's confused until Josiah asks for said toy. He tells Josiah no for right now but after dinner I will play with it with you. So finally he stopped asking for it and moved on to the next thing. I guess he just needed to know when he could play with it. I sure wish he would have just said that and not Why. :-) Well such is the story for the next couple years I'm afraid. :-)
Well, time to fold more laundry, thought you would like a little insight on #1 for a change. I know I talk about #2 often here but I want you to know that #1 is just as important to me. I never knew my arms could be so full, I am truly blessed with lovely children!
Blessings to you all!

Jen,
Just wait for the day when you start calling your kids numbers, pets, etc.. I often refer to the kids by numbers as well, but I screw up and call them by the wrong number! I've adopted something Cryssy's mom used to do; I call the girls my favorites, but I personize it. Rachel is my favorite "yellow" haired daughter; Hannah is my favorite oldest daughter. That one seems to be the easiest for me to remember. :) Thank you for sharing your smile today. I miss you all, and look forward to meeting #2!
Love, Amy
