Josiah's preschool class, Teacher Gloria (in middle), Josiah by her side
Doesn't just the name of that bring back memories of when you were in school and used to go on field trips? Or maybe does it spark the feeling you used to get when you woke up and realized you didn't have school that day because your class was going on a field trip? I just loved that feeling and realized I still do.
We woke up early on Friday morning to prepare ourselves for Josiah's first school field trip. I of course was a helper for the day b/c there is no way I would send my kid without my supervision anywhere with a huge group. (He can't handle those situations well yet) So we got ourselves to the school and prepared the rest of the kids to leave the school. It was a a very briskly cold autumn day, so we had to make sure each kid was bundled up.
When we got to the farm we first toured the barn and all the animals they had inside. The farmer talked to us about seeds and how they grow into plants. He had the kids guess what each seed would grow into. I was amazed that Josiah piped up with the answer to almost every seed,

correctly too I might add. I was so proud that he knew that. Then the farmer explained how baby animals need to stay in the barn when they are first born to stay warm and close to their momma's. There was baby chic's, rabbits, a pig, a calf, some chickens and 2 turkeys. After the barn, we took a hay ride out into the huge field of pumpkins. Each child was allowed to pick out one pumpkin the size of their friends head. Josiah's was quite small, actually smaller than Jacob's head. But he thought it was just the right size. I truly didn't care what he picked out since this was 3rd trip to a pumpkin patch, but I just wanted to make sure it wasn't a rotten one. From there we went to the hay maze, corn maze and hay pyramid. They played hard for 45 minutes or so before we had snack. After snack-time we left. The field trip was all finished, so I decided to take a nice drive on Sauvie Island. It was a very nice fall afternoon, the fog had finally burned off and there were nice views of fields and mountains. It was a very nice day. I am so glad that Josiah's first taste of field trips was such a pleasant one.
